**Definition:** An acute infection of the prostate gland caused by bacteria, most often Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Risk factors include intraprostatic ductal reflux, phimosis, urinary tract infections, and unprotected anal intercourse.
