Microstaging

**Semantic type:** Classification

**Definition:** Pathological staging that applies to cutaneous and mucosal melanomas and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas to identify histological predictors of survival. It is performed on primary tumors and to a smaller extent on metastases and includes the evaluation of tumor thickness and depth of invasion.
