Strontium Ranelate

**Definition:** The ranelate salt form of strontium, that was used for the treatment of osteoporosis. Upon oral administration, strontium binds to and activates the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR), which promotes osteoblastic differentiation and decreases osteoclast differentiation. This increases bone formation and decreases bone resorption, and rebalances bone turnover, resulting in bone formation.
