**Definition:** Human SSX2 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of Xp11.22 and is approximately 63 kb in length. This allele, which encodes protein SSX2, may be involved in the regulation of transcription. A translocation t(X;18)(p11.2;q11.2) of the gene and the SS18 gene is associated with synovial sarcoma.
