Sec 402 - Closed Captioning

Section 402 of the Americans with Disabilities Act requires that television programs broadcast, cable or satellite provide closed captioning to make the content accessible to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. The rule applies to new programming and mandates captioning for pre-recorded content, with limited exceptions for live broadcasts.
