Under the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (Regulation 2023/956), the electricity entry requires importers to report the carbon intensity of imported electricity and to surrender CBAM certificates equivalent to the EU ETS price for those emissions, ensuring that foreign electricity faces the same carbon cost as domestic generation. This aligns imported power with the EU's climate mitigation objectives.
