R.12 Politically exposed persons

R.12 defines politically exposed persons (PEPs) as individuals who hold or have held prominent public functions, together with their immediate family members and close associates, and requires financial institutions to apply enhanced due-diligence measures to mitigate the higher risk of corruption and money laundering linked to these relationships.
