4.2 Understanding needs and expectations of interested parties

Clause 4.2 requires an organization to identify the relevant interested parties-such as customers, regulators, suppliers, communities and employees-and determine their needs and expectations that could influence its environmental management system. This understanding must be documented, incorporated into the EMS scope and objectives, and periodically reviewed to ensure the system remains aligned with stakeholder requirements.
