7.3 Characterization
Section 7.3 of ISO 14040:2006 describes the characterization phase of a life-cycle assessment, in which the inventory results are translated into potential environmental impacts. It outlines the use of equivalence factors and impact-category models to quantify contributions to effects such as climate change, acidification or eutrophication, enabling comparison of alternative product or process options.
