4.1 Understanding the organization and its context

Clause 4.1 of ISO 50001:2018 mandates that an organization identify and evaluate internal and external factors that affect its energy performance, as well as the needs and expectations of relevant interested parties. This understanding defines the scope of the energy management system and forms the foundation for planning, implementation and continual improvement of energy management.
