Annex III - Harmful Substances Carried in Packaged Form

Annex III of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL 73/78) sets standards for the handling and transport of harmful substances in packaged form, requiring ships to use sealed, robust containers and to maintain records of cargo. It limits the discharge of any substances that could pose a hazard to the marine environment and imposes specific labeling, stowage, and emergency response requirements to prevent accidental releases.
