HCFCs are hydrochlorofluorocarbons used as refrigerants and propellants that have moderate ozone-depleting potential. Under the Montreal Protocol they are subject to a scheduled phase-out, with production and consumption limits tightening over successive control periods to transition toward alternatives with lower environmental impact.
