Chapter II-2 - Fire Protection, Detection and Extinction

Chapter II-2 of SOLAS 1974 establishes mandatory standards for fire protection, detection and extinction on board ships, detailing construction requirements, fire-resistant materials, and the design, testing and maintenance of fixed and portable fire-fighting systems. It also prescribes the installation of alarm and detection equipment, fire pumps, extinguishers, sprinkler and foam systems, and outlines crew training and emergency procedures to minimise fire hazards at sea.
