Chapter VI - Carriage of Cargoes

Chapter VI of the 1974 SOLAS Convention establishes uniform requirements for the safe stowage, securing and handling of cargoes on board ships. It defines the duties of ship owners and operators, prescribes construction and maintenance standards for cargo-handling gear, and mandates procedures to prevent shifting, damage or loss that could endanger life at sea.
