Section 304 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act mandates that chief executive officers and chief financial officers return any bonuses, profits or other compensation earned while they were responsible for a material violation of securities laws, with the Securities and Exchange Commission empowered to enforce the forfeiture and assess civil penalties.
