Innocent passage through territorial sea

Innocent passage through a territorial sea allows foreign vessels to traverse a coastal state's waters so long as the transit is continuous, expeditious and does not threaten the peace, security or good order of the coastal state. The ship must comply with the coastal state's laws on navigation, customs, immigration and pollution, but cannot be used for any hostile or preparatory military activity. This right is codified in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
