Part XI - The Area (Seabed)

Part XI of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea establishes the legal regime for the seabed area beyond national jurisdiction, known as "the Area." It creates the International Seabed Authority to manage the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources, ensuring activities are carried out for the benefit of all humanity while protecting the marine environment.
