Article 6 - Adaptation to Regional Conditions

Article 6 permits WTO members to adapt sanitary and phytosanitary measures to differing regional or sub-national conditions, provided the variations are grounded in scientific evidence, are not arbitrary, and do not constitute a disguised restriction on international trade. The provision allows distinct levels of protection in different areas of a country when justified by local circumstances.
