**Definition:** Malocclusion is the atypical relationship between maxillary and mandibular teeth which may interfere with the efficiency of excursive movements of the mandible that are essential for the effective mastication process.

**Long definition:** Malocclusion is the abnormal contact between the teeth of upper and lower jaws. Such malposition and contact of the maxillary and mandibular teeth as to interfere with the highest efficiency during the excursive movements of the jaw that are essential for mastication.
