Diverticulitis of small intestine

**Definition:** When the pouches of small intestine (diverticula) become infected or inflamed, the condition is called diverticulitis. Diverticulitis may lead to several serious complications, such as small tears, called perforations and abscess, formation of fistula to adjacent organs, bleeding, or blockages in the lumen, and medical care is needed.
