Staphylococcal scarlatina

**Definition:** An exanthem mediated by staphylococcal toxins from distant Staphylococcus aureus infection but without the systemic complications seen in staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome, of which it may be regarded as a mild form. Clinically it resembles scarlet fever.
