Chronic urate nephropathy
**Definition:** A condition characterised by deposition of urate crystals in the tubules and interstitium, partial or complete obstruction of the collecting ducts, renal pelvis, or ureter, hyperuricaemia disproportionate to the degree of renal insufficiency and decreased urate excretion. This condition may lead to inflammation, fibrosis, and renal failure.
