**Definition:** A group of conditions characterised by findings in the fetus or newborn due to conditions associated with the mother which are unrelated to the present pregnancy.

**Exclusions:** - Fetus or newborn affected by maternal complications of pregnancy - fetus and newborn affected by maternal endocrine and metabolic disorders - Fetus or newborn affected by noxious influences transmitted via placenta or breast milk
