Enterococcus hirae

**Definition:** A species of Enterococcus that occurs in the GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT of birds and mammals, and to a lesser extent humans. Some strains cause diseases including DIARRHEA; BACTEREMIA; and ENDOCARDITIS in humans and animals.
