Peroxins

**Definition:** Proteins that are essential for the assembly of PEROXISOMES. They recognize and transport cytoplasmic proteins that contain PEROXISOMAL TARGETING SIGNALS (PTS) to the peroxisome. Mutations in peroxin (PEX) genes are associated with several PEROXISOMAL DISORDERS.
