Apolipoprotein L1

**Definition:** An ApoL protein highly expressed by the liver. It has anti-trypanosomal activity through its ability to permeabilize TRYPANOSOMA membranes. Mutations in the APOL1 gene are associated with type 4 FOCAL SEGMENTAL GLOMERULOSCLEROSIS .
