**Definition:** A streptomycin B-related cyclic depsipeptide isolated from the bacterium Streptomyces virginiae and other Streptomyces bacterial species. Virginiamycin S1 binds to and inhibits the formation of 50S ribosomes, thereby preventing protein synthesis. (NCI04)
