**Definition:** A term that refers to the staging of appendix carcinoma according to the American Joint Committee on Cancer, 9th edition. This staging system applies to adenocarcinomas, mucinous neoplasms (low-grade mucinous neoplasms and high-grade mucinous neoplasms), poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas, mixed neuroendocrine-nonneuroendocrine neoplasms (mixed adenocarcinoma-neuroendocrine carcinoma), and goblet cell adenocarcinomas (formerly termed goblet cell carcinoids). Well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (carcinoids) are staged according to the classification for neuroendocrine tumors of the appendix. (from AJCC 9th Ed.)
