Paclitaxel-Eluting Film PTM-101
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A biodegradable film and multilayer polymeric formulation of paclitaxel, with potential antineoplastic activity. Upon placement of the paclitaxel-eluting film PTM-101 directly to the peritumoral area, the drug-eluting layer provides sustained-release of paclitaxel, while the backbone layer ensures the unidirectional release of paclitaxel. Once the paclitaxel is released, it binds to tubulin inside tumor cells and inhibits the disassembly-assembly dynamics of microtubules, resulting in tumor cell cycle arrest and tumor cell death. The release of paclitaxel at the site of tumor may allow for the delivery of higher doses to cancer cells while minimizing systemic exposure and toxicities.
**Synonyms:** - PTM 101 - PTM-101 - PTM101 - Paclitaxel Absorbable Film Formulation PTM-101
