IGK Locus Fusion Gene

**Semantic type:** Gene or Genome

**Definition:** A fusion gene that results from a chromosomal rearrangement involving the p11.2 band on the short arm of chromosome 2. Most rearrangements involving 2p11.2 result in the juxtaposition of a strong transcriptional enhancer from the immunoglobulin kappa light chain (IGK) gene locus with the promoter region for another gene; this promoter exchange process leads to overexpression or aberrant expression of the protein encoded by the fusion partner and may be associated with various B-cell malignancies.

**Synonyms:** - IGK Fusion Gene - Immunoglobulin Kappa Fusion Gene - Immunoglobulin Kappa Light Chain Locus Fusion Gene - Immunoglobulin Kappa Locus Fusion Gene - Kappa Light Chain Fusion Gene
