IGK/MYC Fusion Gene

**Definition:** A fusion gene that results from a chromosomal translocation, t(2;8)(p11;q24), which results in the juxtaposition of a strong transcriptional enhancer from the immunoglobulin kappa light chain (IGK) gene locus with either a promoter region for or upstream of exon 2 of the MYC gene. This fusion is associated with Burkitt lymphoma, high grade diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and certain cases of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma.
