IGL Locus Fusion Gene

**Semantic type:** Gene or Genome

**Definition:** A fusion gene that results from a chromosomal rearrangement involving the q11.2 band on the long arm of chromosome 22. Most rearrangements involving 22q11.2 result in the juxtaposition of a strong transcriptional enhancer from the immunoglobulin lambda light chain (IGL) gene locus with the promoter region for another gene; this promoter exchange process leads to overexpression or aberrant expression of the protein encoded by the fusion partner and may be associated with various B-cell malignancies.

**Synonyms:** - IGL Fusion Gene - Immunoglobulin Lambda Fusion Gene - Immunoglobulin Lambda Light Chain Locus Fusion Gene - Immunoglobulin Lambda Locus Fusion Gene - Lambda Light Chain Fusion Gene
