**Definition:** A second generation non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor derivative of oxathiin carboxanilide. Uniroyal compound 38 has activity against a wide range of biologically diverse laboratory and clinical strains of HIV-1 but is inactive against HIV-2.
