Esophageal Granular Cell Tumor

**Semantic type:** Neoplastic Process

**Definition:** A rare slow-growing subepithelial esophageal neoplasm that predominantly affects the distal esophagus and usually presents with small sessile polyps or small nodules. It derives from Schwann cells and is characterized by the presence of sheets of oval to polygonal cells that contain a small central nucleus and abundant granular cytoplasm. It usually has a benign clinical course.
