4.1 Understanding the organization and its context

The clause requires the organization to identify internal and external factors that influence its occupational health and safety objectives, such as legal, technological, cultural and economic conditions. It also mandates considering the needs and expectations of workers, suppliers, regulators and other interested parties to define the scope and direction of the OHS management system.
