Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII)
The Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) is a performance metric introduced under MARPOL Annex VI that quantifies a ship's CO₂ emissions per unit of transport work, expressed in grams of CO₂ per cargo-tonne-nautical-mile. It is used to assess and rank vessels' energy efficiency and to enforce progressive emission reduction targets.
