Artificial islands and installations in EEZ

Artificial islands and installations built by a coastal State within its exclusive economic zone are subject to the same jurisdiction and control as the natural resources of the zone, but they do not generate their own maritime zones such as territorial seas or EEZs. The building, operation and removal of such structures must respect the rights of other States and comply with environmental protection obligations under the Convention.
