Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
**Definition:** Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the presence of a hypertrophied, non-dilated ventricle in the absence of a hemodynamic cause that is capable of producing the existent magnitude of wall thickening excluding both physiologic hypertrophy secondary to physical activity, and pathologic hypertrophy due to systemic hypertension, aortic valvar stenosis, and coarctation.
