Diverticulitis of small intestine with perforation or abscess

**Definition:** This develops from diverticulosis, which involves the formation of pouches (diverticula) on the outside of the small intestine and results if one or some of these diverticula becomes inflamed, of the small intestine with perforation or abscess.
