**Definition:** Any substance that inhibits ribonucleotide reductase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of ribonucleoside diphosphates to deoxyribonucleotide diphosphate precursors for de novo DNA synthesis. Inhibition of ribonucleotide reductase can cause inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell growth.
