**Definition:** These are a group of disorders caused by malfunctioning of the ion channels in skeletal muscle membranes causing the cells to depolarize leading to weakness or paralysis. The common triggers include cold, heat, high carbohydrate meals, stress, excitement, physical exertion etc.
