**Definition:** Any of a class of anti-tumor antibiotics acting as alkylating agents. All mitomycins have the backbone of methyl, aziridine, pyrrolo, indole, and dione moieties. Bioreductively activated mitomycin antibiotics generate oxygen radicals and alkylate DNA, forming inter-strand cross-links and inhibiting DNA synthesis.
